HUMAN ADINKRA

Today i had the opportunity to meet the guy behind the creative and awesome Human Andikra, tall guy maybe in hes mid 20s, well dressed, out spoken. Hes well known as Generali Africa Njogu, a Photographer as we all know him.

A little about the adinkra symbols they are visual symbols, originally created by the Akan of Ghana and the Gyaman of Cote d’Ivoire in West Africa, that represent concepts. Adinkra are used on fabric, walls, in pottery, woodcarvings and logos. They also can be used to communicate express messages that represent parts of their life or those around them. There are many different symbols all have unique looks and meanings.

So i had to ask what really motivated this quest to start the Human Andikra as this is what hes had to say :-

This project came to birth 3 years ago as i was researching on tattoos that i could get for my body. I came across the adinkra symbols and after researching this west African symbols i noticed that a lot of the symbols have been used in various design , logos and even the Seal originated for this symbols. i got so fascinated and decided to get the tattoos and i got the Supremacy of God which includes the Seal and the talon of the Eagle. After that this year i was thinking of adding more of this symbols since they have a meaning that relates to our daily lives. So something came to my mind and i thought why not recreate this symbols as a Photography project that will steer conversations about this symbols since our current generation is losing touch of our rich heritages. So i thought why not take this journey and get to bring out this culture in a way that will be appealing to have booth as a wall print and also as a book and postcards that will be helpful to our generation. I Wish to have this project out so as to inspire our generation to keep this rich cultures that are getting extinct. From this project i aim at creating A Coffee table book, wall prints and postcards.

Also represent popular proverbs and maxims, record historical events, express particular attitudes or behavior related to depicted figures, or concepts uniquely related to abstract shapes.
